Reviews Overview

The best part of Chish & Fips? The freshness of their fish. Every bite of the cod or haddock exudes quality, often surpassing expectations with its crispy batter and large, tender portions.

Another standout is the locally sourced, freshly cut chips. Perfectly seasoned and served with options like mushy peas and curry sauce, they complement the fish exceptionally well. Patrons rave about the unique battered pizza—a local favorite that adds a delightful twist to the traditional menu.

Customer service receives high praise; the friendly staff consistently create a welcoming atmosphere, making every visit a pleasant experience. Many enthusiasts also appreciate the generous portions, ensuring a fulfilling meal without breaking the bank.

Most Disliked

Some diners mention frustration with peak time wait periods, particularly on Fridays at dinner, when the shop can reach full capacity. Planning ahead or visiting during off-peak hours can help alleviate this issue.

While most menu items are crowd-pleasers, a few reviews highlight that certain fish selections can be problematic on busier days, occasionally lacking their usual freshness. Ensuring that patrons get the perfect dish each time can be a challenge during these moments.

Lastly, while the gluten-free options are fantastic for many, some customers wish there were even more variety available. A little more exploration into alternative dietary needs could expand Chish & Fips' appeal.

I’ve been frequenting this fish and chips shop for more years than I can recall, especially when I’m in the vicinity, and there’s a good reason for that. You can always rely on well-cooked fish and chips, high hygiene standards, great value for money, and relatively easy parking - although this can be challenging during peak times. Equally important to me is the excellent customer service. No matter how delicious the food is, if I’m not greeted with a friendly smile or if the atmosphere feels unwelcoming, I tend to avoid that place whenever possible. Given all this, it’s no surprise that this eatery has likely won more awards than any other fish and chips shop in Norwich! For instance, it has received accolades such as the Traditional Fish & Chip Shop Fry Magazine Award, recognition as one of the 50 Best Fish & Chips Takeaways in the UK, the Gold Seal, and numerous other local awards.

Only a 5 minute walk is Waterloo park which is where we sat and had our fish & chips. Chish & Fips is an amazing location with car parking outside and a lovely park nearby to enjoy them in. I’ve been to Chish & Fips a few years ago and absolutely loved it. I was invited to come along to go check them out again and I was even more impressed! They have an amazing menu with options available for everyone. Open from Tuesday- Saturday they have vegan and vegetarian options. On Tuesday they also do a gluten free menu. Currently they have new potato chips which are my absolute favourite! These are the type of chips where you never want them to end! Perfect amount of salt and vinegar, were put on them for me. I also tried the regular cod which can always be hit and miss in places around me. Most the time cod can be very oily and watery which shows it’s not fresh at all. But their cod had a perfect crispy batter with thick, soft and rich chunks of cod easily coming off. Exactly how you want cod to be. You can tell it’s fresh and they know exactly what they are doing! The most exciting thing on the menu was the battered pizza! Something that you can’t find anywhere else in Norwich. I actually absolutely loved this! The cheese and tomato pizza with the crispy batter was an amazing combination. It’s such a comforting salty taste of flavours. The perfect size too and not oily either. The last thing I tried was the spring roll, this takes slightly longer to cook and is absolutely huge. It’s a vegetarian option, so it has onions and different spices inside. It worked perfectly with the curry sauce. The curry sauce and mushy peas also hit the spot. Proper traditional fish & chip sauces. Lastly I have to mention the condiments, they sell ketchup, mayonnaise and Tartar sauce in the proper big sachets, which are fantastic! Only 50p each and you get so much more in these packets then regular sachets. If you haven’t already then I 100% recommend going to this hidden gem in Norwich! 🤩🙌🏻

That good old staple dinner fish and chips... and sausages =o) Chish and Fips battered sausages are tasty. Pushed the boat out and went for the foot long. Just the right amount of chips. Nothing worse the getting more than you can eat. Their deep fried cream egg and battered mince pies have to be tried when they are on the menu!

Brilliant gluten free cod and chips. Fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was excellent. I also had GF battered sausage which was also excellent. Friendly staff, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a gluten-free meal. Overall very impressed, and will certainly be back.

Hands down the best fish and chips in Norwich. Wonderful friendly staff, always greeted with a smile and a chat! Every Friday night we get a takeaway and it never disappoints. Absolutely delicious. Beautiful fluffy white fish and golden chips. They’ve even supplied food for my 50th party, and whenever friends come to stay they insist on Chish and Fips!! - amazing! Keep up the good work guys 👍👍👌

Our local chip shop and lucky for us does amazing vegan options! We have tried all the different vegan choices- pies, fish and sausages but our go to is 2 sausages and chips. To be able to get something that tastes just like we remember it is amazing. All the choices are great, it's not expensive and the staff are so lovely. You can call ahead to order and it will be ready when you get there. Can't recommend highly enough !!
